When you’re young people always warn you about how easy it is to get pregnant. Well, it definitely took us longer than we thought it would. After a full year of doing our part and never getting a positive pregnancy test we decided that we probably should see a specialist. While we were in Utah I talked with my regular doctor about it, but never went to a specialist because I knew we would be moving out of Utah shortly. Once we got to Wisconsin we decided to wait until I had a job/insurance before we go see a real fertility specialist.
Our first day in Wisconsin our land lord was talking to us about his apartments and said that everyone gets pregnant in his apartments, even the ones who couldn't before. He had no idea that we were trying at the time and I remember giving Scott a look like, “Did you hear that? Magical fertility apartments.” Within 3 months of us living there 5 of the tenants that live in the same col-de-sac had babies… our land lord only has 12 apartments in the col-de-sac and 2 of them aren't really in a position to have a baby. As of right now one more just had a baby and 2 are pregnant. Seriously there must be something in the water because within a month I got my positive pregnancy test…unfortunately that pregnancy didn't last very long and didn't have a happy ending. Having a miscarraige totally sucked but we felt like it was at least a step in the right direction.
After getting insurance it took a lot longer to get in to see a doctor than I thought it would. Since seeing the doctor we have had another miscarriage and a million tests done. Testing is not cheap and I can’t believe how much we spent to have the doctor tell us we are healthy and there isn’t any reason that they can find that would prevent us from having a successful pregnancy. Hearing that from the doctor was good and bad. Although I would never want to have a serious problem with fertility I was hoping that he would say that some small hormone was off and all I had to do was take a magic supplement and things would be good. Instead he just told us to keep doing what we were doing and hopefully things would work out.
This last month I just knew that I would be getting pregnant. It was the weirdest thing, I hadn't even ovulated yet but I went to Target and bought a little boy and a little girl outfit. I knew I would be able to take a pregnancy test on Scott’s birthday, February 17, and I figured I would give him both outfits as a birthday gift and let him figure it out. On Valentine’s Day I decided to take a test just in case I could already prove I was pregnant. It was positive. I gave Scott the option of either getting his big gift for Valentine’s Day or his birthday. Luckily he chose Valentine’s Day. I think it would have killed me to wait 3 more days to tell him. I even got him opening up the present on camera… We are thrilled to be expecting, but we are hesitant to get really excited. Baby Robinson is due October 27, 2014.
